Historic Langley

1952-1958: Building built.

Aerial photographs suggest the building was constructed sometime between 1952 and 1958.

The Healing Circles building, the buildings behind it, plus units of the Langley Motel that were not present in 1952 are present in the 1957/1958 aerial view.

A.L. Barber sold the property to Joseph Barber (9/25/52) who may have built the building.

He may have also constructed several buildings behind the "Healing Circles" building.

Buildings behind main building are still present in 1971 and 1976 aerial views. A driveway on the east side of the "Healing Circles" building suggests the units may have been rentals.

John M. Watson purchased the property 12/1/1978, and sold it to Ronald J Bunker 7/1/1979 who "fixed the building up" before selling the building to Frances Abel 12/1/1983.

Fran and her husband Ed lived upstairs. According to Ed, "Fran ran her business there with a rental upstairs. Fran's business's name was 'Abel's Garden Center' while it was retail. She stopped that in the early 90's (didn't like retail) and changed her business name to 'Fran Abel Landscape & Garden Design.'"

Fran put the arbor in front and made other improvements to the structure. The buildings behind Healing Circles were unused and in bad shape.

There was a boundary line adjustment in 3/30/2000. "Two men bought the buildings behind Healing Circles and the property along the bluff hoping to build condominiums. They demolished the buildings and the house further East. All were in bad shape. It turned out the property line went through our building and needed to be adjusted." (Ed Anderson).

Abel et al. sold the property to Kelly G. Lindsay (3/25/2001).

Kelly and Diana Lindsay moved to Whidbey from Texas in 1989 and co-founded a marketing communications firm, Lindsay Communications, which grew from a two-person home venture to a successful local business that enabled their employees to buy their first homes, raise their families, and save for retirement (Diana Lindsay).

"The original roof was flat and sloped to the north. The Lindsay's replaced it with a peaked roof" (Ed Anderson).

"Todd Soli had an office in the building for a time." (Ed Anderson).

"When Diana Lindsay developed cancer in 2006, they sold Lindsay Communications and toured the U.S. for a time. When they returned to Whidbey, they established Healing Circles." They also wrote a book about their experience titled "Something More than Hope/Something More Than Everything" published in 2014." (Ed Anderson).

Kelly Lindsay died May 1, 2020 and the property was transferred to Diana Lindsay (3/25/2021). Lindsay Communication. Inc. at 534 Camano Avenue was dissolved.

Solar panels were installed on the roof and new cedar shingles were added in 2022.
